The curious link between door-to-door sales and billionaires; EA Worldwide Acquisitions Report

EA Worldwide Acquisitions, leading outsourced sales and marketing agency, have always had a steadfast view that door-to-door sales teaches an individuals all of the skills and attitudes needed to run a successful business long term. The firm visits how many of the world’s top entrepreneurs, with net worth in the billions, started their career knocking on doors.

EA Worldwide Acquisitions points out that face-to-face sales and marketing can help develop a huge range of skills within an individual, not just the ability to sell. The firm believes that face-to-face sales and marketing can help to increase a person’s confidence, interpersonal skills, public speaking and the ability to negotiate. These are all vital skills that can be translated into any business.

EA Worldwide Acquisition’s ideals were backed up in an article published in Forbes Magazine earlier this year by Gillian Zoe Segal titled:  Door-to-door selling as the first step to Billions.  The article revealed how many of today’s top entrepreneurs and billionaires started their careers in face-to-face marketing roles.  Segal states, ‘’Before you shell out $160,000 on a business school education, you might want to consider spending a couple of years as a door-to-door salesman instead. That’s what I learned as I researched and wrote my new book, Getting There: A Book of Mentors, in which 30 leaders in a broad range of fields tell about their rocky road to the top. I was surprised to find out how many of them credited early shoe-leather sales jobs for equipping them with the skills they needed for their ultimate success.’’

John Paul DeJoria is the co-founder of the Patron Spirits Company and John Paul Mitchell Systems. The successful entrepreneur experience three years of selling Collier’s Encyclopaedia door-to-door and called the experience “on the most formative experiences of his life.” John Paul DeJoria believes that this three year stint taught him how to use his powers of persuasion and how to overcome rejection. The business owner believes that these are the same skills he needed to make his, not hugely successful businesses, work.

Sara Blakely is the billionaire founder of the shapewear company Spanx. Blakely started her career selling fax machines door-to-door. The entrepreneur said that this helped her become immune to the word no, helping her to always try again. Sara Blakely also revealed that from cold-calling she learned that you have about 15 seconds to capture someone’s attention – but if you can make them smile or laugh, you get an extra 15 to 30. This is how the humorous name ‘Spanx’ and slogan “We’ve got your butt covered” were born, helping to make her business the success it is today.

The artist Jeff Koons used to sell candy door-to-door and then moved on to everything from soft drinks to memberships at the Museum of Modern Art. Koons explains that selling is similar to fishing in that you must be persistent and patient. He is now the most commercially successful artists alive but it took him nine years after graduating to make enough money from his art to give up having a second job. Calling on the persistence and patience he had perfected as a salesman, he slowly broke into the art scene by saying yes to any invitation that gave him the opportunity to network.

EA Worldwide Acquisitions is an outsourced sales and marketing agency based in London. The firm develop unique direct marketing campaigns on behalf of their clients’ brands. These campaigns are taken to consumers via face-to-face marketing techniques in order to create long-lasting and person connections between brand and consumer. This often leads to increased customer acquisition, brand awareness and brand loyalty for their clients.

Managing Director of EA Worldwide Acquisitions, Josh Cote, is a prime example of how a job in sales can lead to success. Josh Cote started his career at the bottom working in residential sales and now owns one of the most successful direct marketing companies in Britain. The business owner claims that he wouldn’t be where he is today without developing basic selling techniques.
