More than 17.7 million Britons plan to start their own business according to research conducted to launch the 5th Nectar Business Small Business Awards. Josh Cote, Managing Director of EA Worldwide mentors new start-up business owners and believes these numbers will contribute to the UK economic recovery.
More than 17.7 million Britons plan to start their own business, with the majority going from their usual ‘9 to 5’ to work ‘5 to 9’ and weekends to get started, research finds. The big reasons hard working Brits give for wanting to run their own small businesses are; making their own money (47 per cent), being their own boss (46 per cent), taking on new challenges (26 per cent) and creating a family business (18 per cent).

The growing prominence of businesswomen in the media, including star of BBC1’s The Apprentice and Nectar Business Small Business Awards judge Karren Brady, has seen an 8 per cent rise in the number of women looking to become entrepreneurs, with 59 per cent reporting entrepreneurial ambitions, compared to 51 per cent five years ago.
