With the uncertainty of Brexit casting a rippling effect both politically and economically, business consultant Josh Cote has been sharing the reasons why organisations need to strengthen their leadership skills and build trust if they want to withstand the effects of the UK leaving the EU.Â
Following the results from the recent MEP elections and Theresa May’s resignation, Mr. Cote has been reflecting on the importance of strong leadership and why there has never been a more important time for organisations to build trust.
“I recently read that trust is one of the most important attributes that people look for in a good leader. It has a big influence on whether leaders are perceived in a negative or positive manner. With Brexit looming and all the uncertainty that it brings for businesses, there could not be a more important time for organisations to build trust within their company culture.” – commented Mr. Cote.
It is paramount that businesses should now consider building trust within their organisation to be the key to surviving hard times. Without trust, it seems that their businesses may become irrelevant post Brexit.
Mr. Cote believes that with great leaders, businesses can flourish as they are the keys to building better teams, especially when three core elements of trust are taught:
Positive Relationships.
Positive relationships are a fundamental and underlying factor when it comes to the basis of trust. If leaders can cultivate a positive relationship through problem-solving, giving honest feedback, and encouraging cooperation between others, it is likely they are instilling trust in their peers and customers.
Good Judgement
When you factor in good judgement as a foundation of trust, it’s not easily taught, however, leaders that possess this quality make it easier for others to seek their opinions as well as have the ability to anticipate and respond hastily to problems.
Consistency.
Consistency is another important factor when it comes to trust. This is where leaders will effectively walk the walk and talk the talk without flinching. Consistency is demonstrated when leaders follow through on their commitments, do what they say and lead by example at all times, even when things don’t go their way.
With these three core elements, Mr. Cote believes that the level of trust will rise in each leader within an organisation. This will, in turn, have a direct impact on the teams they lead and above all, the customers they interact with.
If each business can take on board a trustworthy and accountable role in creating great leaders with these qualities, Mr. Cote believes that most businesses will be able to see through uncertain times and offer the very best for their clients as well as keeping customers happy. Not only that but if these qualities can be taught to all leaders, then the workforce becomes undeniably stronger and much more effective.
