As a skills shortage sweeps the nation making it harder for jobseekers to land their dream roles, EA Worldwide Acquisitions share how they believe jobseekers can thrive in the current climate.
In a recent online article (www.cityam.com, More job vacancies than job seekers in 41 out of 56 UK cities, 2nd November 2015) research by job search engine Adzuna has discovered that there were an average of 0.58 jobseekers per job vacancy in September 2015, slightly less than the 0.62 jobseekers per vacancy recorded during the previous month, August 2015. By comparison, only 27 UK cities had more job vacancies than jobseekers a year ago.
The report also found that employers in Cambridge have had the most problems filling vacancies last month, with just 0.09 applicants per vacancy, shortly followed by Guildford (0.10 jobseekers per vacancy) and Oxford (0.13 jobseekers per vacancy). Sunderland, on the other hand, was found as the worst city for jobseekers during September, with 4.01 jobseekers per vacancy, followed by Hull (3.05 jobseekers per vacancy).
EA Worldwide Acquisitions believe that business are struggling to fill their vacancies because of the significant skills shortage within the UK labour force. Many cities do not ow enough home-grown talent to fill new positions, meaning companies are increasingly relying on worker from further-reaching locations.
In addition, EA Worldwide Acquisitions believe many businesses are failing to provide opportunities for people who are seeking training and development; instead many business today are focusing too heavily on existing skills and narrowing their talent pool.
