5 Must Read Career Tips from Entrepreneur Josh Cote

Get ahead in 2015 with Josh Cote’s career advice. Here the self-made businessman provides his most practical tips for climbing the corporate ladder and taking control of your future. For many, the New Year marks the beginning of an exciting new journey. The New Year often acts as a blank canvas and can provide the final push needed to take on new challenges and achieve exciting goals. With a large majority of business professionals and entrepreneurs estimated to be making a life changing career move this year, Managing Director of EA Worldwide Acquisitions and Entrepreneur Josh Cote has called on his own business experience to comprise a must read list of career tips. With the UK currently leading the pack when it comes to entrepreneurship in Europe, he hopes that the following practical career tips help to continue the wave of entrepreneurship sweeping the UK and help those looking to take full control of their futures.

1. Vision

Nothing of substance can be achieved if an entrepreneur isn’t sure where they are going. Josh Cote believes entrepreneurs must ask themselves ‘what is the goal?’ before embarking on a venture so that they can set benchmarks along the way to realising that vision. This will also help entrepreneurs whose ultimate goal may seem out of reach, as achieving smaller goals can provide a boost and make larger goals appear far more obtainable.

2. Do not listen to negative people

Negative people can quickly kill an entrepreneur’s motivation, and motivation is vital if an entrepreneur is to overcome the many challenges of the business world. ‘I call them dream stealers,’ states Josh Cote “Never listen to someone who earns £30,000 p/y tell you how to make £1 million because they do not know”.  Spend time with successful people, surround yourself with positive people who a have ‘can-do’ mentality.

3. Attitude

Why is it important?  A positive attitude is what attracts people to want to listen to your message.  ‘Winners want to spend time with positive people not negative people. Nothing is more infectious than a winning attitude’ says Josh Cote.

4. Be a Great Student

Business is a constant learning curve; even the most experienced CEO’s continue to learn so that their business can remain competitive and strong.  It’s important not to become complacent, especially in a competitive market. “If you stop learning you stop growing, the moment you think you know everything is the moment your business will start to suffer’ says Josh Cote, who is urging entrepreneurs to never stop educating themselves, whether this be through a mentor, books or attending seminars, the important thing is to always be seeking out new information in order to get ahead.

5. Work Ethic

No entrepreneur has ever succeeded without a strong and committed work ethic. A strong work ethic gives entrepreneurs the edge over their competition; much like in sports where the more an individual puts in, the better they perform by having the mental edge over their opponents. ‘You need to work like you are making a 100k per year before you ever make it, it is an easy way to gain respect from your clients and employees” states Josh Cote. By possessing a strong work ethic, entrepreneurs can influence the working practices of those around them and encourage a culture of teamwork, which when running a business is vital to increasing productivity and keeping projects on track.
